UPDATE: As of evening of January 6/2014 this Machine is fully automatic, I no longer a water for it, it's connected to my ice maker line with in-line double filter, I just installed the smallest fill-valve I bought on amazon, material costs about $15.00 plus about 15 minutes of work. If any one is interested in converting any coffee or espresso machine that's equipped with removable reservoir check this link for the major part which is the valve. Take your valve to Home Depot or any hardware store to get matching pipe-line, "T" and shutoff valve, if you love your machine then buy in-line water filter for it. again check this link for the part. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FCKR5EC/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I am son of coffee farmers, I grow up drinking a real coffee, after leaving the coffee farm I couldn't get used to the US water/coffee so I started with the cheapest and garbage espresso machines such as Mr, coffee at $39.00 I went through two of them in about 18 months, and purchased another brand non automatic on amazon and that machine is even worst that Mr. coffee while its price is 7 time the Mr. Coffee's price. few months ago I got really tired of these fake espresso machines and start shopping again, I read a very good review about Saeco, I try the new ones but the price didn't seem touchable, hunting on local add website I came across one for way less than what I was planning to pay for it, I didn't waste no time I went and got it. This machine is about 90% plastic but if you want a STARBUCKS kind or even better Espresso, this is the machine you need even for business, you can make regular coffee only by reducing amount of coffee need to be ground, or by increasing amount of water need to come with the coffee all with one touch, you can simply make one shoot or two with simple press. This machine grinds roasted bean, makes excellent espresso and cleans its self and make its self READY for the next espresso. The only thing you need to do is please clean it periodically, the bin can be full and overflow, no warning light for the dump, If you know coffee and want a real coffee, this amazing machine makes it. I love this machine, by the time I brush my teeth and come back to my kitchen my two shoots are always ready. I have it for the past 8 months and I really like it, I feel like this is the most valuable item in my kitchen probably because everything else belongs to my lovely wife while this machine belongs to me :) it's that I love coffee and she just drinks occasionally. I have no enough word to tell how much I like this machine anyways well designed, engineered and built. Thanks to Italy :)

We purchased this expresso maker after our first one, which we owned for years and years, finally died on us. We decided to get it repaired, but give it to our son and buy a new one for ourselves. When the new expresso maker arrived, we were terribly disappointed. Compared to the first machine, the quality of workmanship is shockingly poor. The pieces fit poorly together and have play between them. Sometimes just touching them moves them out of alignment. The first machine was tight and well-constructed.The heating element isn't as good either. My husband and I have both noticed that the water isn't as hot when it comes out of the machine. Neither does the machine dispense as much water. We've had to turn the setting to the Max to get a complete cup of coffee. This may be by design, however, and not a negative. Turning our previous coffee maker to the Max setting resulted in overfilling the cup. Larger cups that would accommodate the increased amount do not fit well and are spilled when they're tipped for removal from the machine. As for making the coffee, expresso, etc., the machine does just fine. It's internal functions seem to work well. I suppose my real concern here is that, if the quality of the rest of the machine is any indication, this one may not last as long as the first one and we may have to send it off for repair too. If that happens, I'm not sure we'll ever replace this one with another like it. We may look at other brands, even if it means spending more money--which it will.

We purchased this a little over a year ago (late October, 2010) and have already spent money on repairs. After replacing a motor, we still have an electric burning smell every time we use it. We also have water that leaks from the bottom whenever we use the steam wand. I sent an email to Saeco regarding the issues before our year warranty was expired, and they never responded. Not the type of company I'll ever do business with again. Wish I could give zero stars.
